EDITORIAL - Welcome to the official website of Kahuzi-Biega National Park

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the new official website of Kahuzi-Biega National Park (KBNP). Its launch on June 22, 2026, on the occasion of World Rainforest Day, marks an important milestone in the Park’s efforts to strengthen its communication and engage with the public.

The choice of this date is no coincidence. World Tropical Forest Day highlights the vital role that the KBNP’s ecosystems play in preserving biodiversity, regulating the climate, and ensuring the well-being of local communities. It also calls on us to renew our collective commitment in the face of threats to tropical forests, including deforestation, illegal exploitation of natural resources, and the effects of climate change.

In a world where access to information has become essential, it was important for KBNP to have an official platform to raise awareness of its exceptional natural heritage, its missions, its achievements, and the challenges it faces. This website meets that need by providing a unique resource for anyone interested in the conservation of this world heritage.

Through this platform, we aim to bring the Park closer to its various audiences: local communities, visitors, researchers, partners, decision-makers, the media, and nature lovers. The website will allow users to follow the Park’s latest news, learn about its conservation, research, and community development programs, as well as the initiatives undertaken to protect gorillas and the forest ecosystems on which they depend.

This new tool will also help enhance the transparency of our work, highlight the efforts of the men and women dedicated daily to protecting the Park, and promote opportunities for collaboration with all of our partners. We hope it will foster a better understanding of conservation issues and encourage greater commitment to preserving this exceptional heritage.

On behalf of the entire Kahuzi-Biega National Park team, I thank you for your visit and invite you to explore the various sections of this website. We hope it will become a source of information, inspiration, and action for you in support of the conservation of one of the most important tropical forests in the Congo Basin.

Together, let us preserve the tropical forests and the biodiversity they harbor for present and future generations.
